Enjoyable Visit

I went to Arkansas for two weeks to visit with my parents. As my husband drove me to the meeting spot Cooper and Lola stayed with Marc's parents for the day. They love Marc's parents and they get excited each time we start the drive way. Thank you Jack and Ann for taking such good care of my kids while we were gone.

Cooper is doing well!!

Thank you for all the well wishes for Cooper's surgery. It meant a lot to me!!

Cooper did really well at the Vet. He ended up getting more than a teeth cleaning. Once they started looking at things he had other issues that needed to be addressed. The vet wanted to start with X-rays.

The x-rays came back, and here is what they found:

1. There is one of those little teeth on the bottom of his mount (right in the front) that is loose, and they are going to pull that one too

2. There is another tooth that never came out of his gums, that will probably cause him issues in the future. They are going to pull that as well

3. Since his gums are kinda bad, I gave them the OK to do the antibiotic treatment on his gums, which will help his gum health (and reduce the risk of these situations)

$1100 later we picked up a groggy dog that just wanted to cuddle. MY Favorite!! Coop is on soft food for 2 weeks and he will be spoiled every second of the day.

Hello friends it's been a long time. I hope this post finds everyone healthy and happy.

I have fallen in love with the vintage suitcase dog beds, so I decided I'd give it a shot and try to make one. It turned out pretty good and Cooper seems to like it. Especially when the sun is out.

Cooper and Lola are doing well. Lola's back to her old self and spent one month with the cone of shame. Cooper goes in tomorrow to get his teeth cleaned and a tooth pulled. I hate seeing my dogs go under anesthesia so please keep him in your thoughts.

Poor Lola

We have been fighting Lola's allergies pretty hard here lately. She scratches her face so violently that she created a pea size open wound. I always cleaned it and she would not scratch her face all day. It's at night when she would scratch when she knew we were not watching her. Her overnight scratching would reopen the wound and we were back to square one.

Finally I did what all dogs dread. I went to the pet store and bought the dreaded funnel collar. I knew Lola wouldn't like it but I needed a few days scratch free for her wound to heal. Lola was scared of it at first. Throwing herself in reverse for the first few minutes. Then she acclimated to it and the rest was is history. I am so happy she tolerates it. She's doing very well!

This week my mother in law(Ann) was in town. She and my husband met up for lunch and she sent him home with some dog inspired gifts for me. Two of my favorite things. Dogs and gifts. hehe

Among the gifts that I received was a very cute bag. It's a canvas type bag that rolls up into a neat pouch for easy storage. This is perfect for those traveling times when you need extra hands.

The next item is a simple dog bone shaped carabineer. It's a good size to hold my keys. There are always times where I take the dogs to the park, lock my car and have no pockets to put my keys in.

A magnetic car sign was also in the bag of goodies. It's message is a great one.

And my favorite item is now apart of my key chain. I love the texture of the key covers. It feels good in your hands.

I believe Ann found these fun dog inspired at Target. It gets better. She got them in Targets 1$ section. A place that I look for cotton candy each trip. I want to thank Ann for always thinking about me and supporting me. You're the best.

NFL Draft weekend

Da' Coop here...

I had a good time watching the draft on mom's lap this weekend. It was pretty much a snuggle fest. With the occasional cheers from Mom and Dad. Dad's pretty happy with the Packer's picks and we will be rooting for them all, but especially Randall Cobb. Dad says he's got a good feeling about this kid. Hope your teams did as good as ours. Can't wait til all this lock out garbage is all over.

Dog Bite Prevention

Children are so curious about dogs and are often never taught the rules of dog safety. Children see dogs as cute objects to touch, grab and play with. Children aged 0 to 9 represented the greatest percentage of victims in dog-related injuries. Most often those injuries were head injuries requiring hospitalization. This is why it is so important to educate children of dog safety. I found a great list of rules on the ASPCA website that every child should be taught.

The 10 Rules to go over with your kids about Dog Safety are:

I will not stare into a dog's eyes.
I will not tease dogs behind fences.
I will not go near dogs chained up in yards.
I will not touch a dog I see loose (off-leash) outside.
If I see a loose dog, I will tell an adult immediately.
I will not run and scream if a loose dog comes near me.
I will stand very still (like a tree), and will be very quiet if a dog comes near me.
I will not touch or play with a dog while he or she is eating.
I will not touch a dog when he or she is sleeping.
I will only pet a dog if I have received permission from the dog's owner. Then I will ask permission of the dog by letting him sniff my closed hand.

This is such a great list, however I think there are a few more rules that should be taught to children.

If a dog chases you while riding your bike, immediately stop your bike and stand still.
Never enter someone else's property where a dog lives to retrieve a ball or toy, even if you know the dog.
Do not approach a dog with puppies.
Never yank or even touch a dog's tail or ears, even if you know it.
If a dog runs at you and knocks you down, roll into a ball and cover your face with your arms, and freeze-don't move a muscle and do not try to get to your feet.

Dog bite prevention week is may 15-21. If you are a teacher, child care provider or volunteer that works with children, please consider joining Doggone Safe in it's venture to break a world record by educating 50,000 children in one week.

According to Doggone Safe; To be a presenter for the International Dog Bite Prevention Challenge all you need is a Be a Tree Teacher Kit. This is a self-guiding kit with everything you need to offer an entertaining and interactive presentation to children. The Be a Tree program focuses on positive messages and teaches kids how to read dog body and language and have empathy for the dog. It teaches them to stand still like a tree if a strange dog approaches or any dog is bothering them or becoming too frisky.

This months toy from VIP products was the MEGA TUG-O-WAR. The toy was tested by tigers and is a 10 on the tuff scale.

Instead of a play by play I am going to let the pictures do the talking. Both Lola and Cooper like the toy, but Cooper can become obsessed about it. This is by far his favorite toy.

Happy Birthday to Me!!

Lola here on the keyboard. I wanted to tell you about my birthday gifts I got this week. Mom bought me a new sweater/shirt. It's pink and white and brown. Pssst...I have a big secret to tell. Fun New Toy

Cooper and Lola received a package from Trixie, Lily, and Sammy Joe awhile back. The Pogo Plush. C&L loved this toy from the get go. Going for minutes at the time without releasing it from their teeth and tugging and tugging. They had a blast.

I allowed C&L to continue to play with the toy. They both loved it and I think it may be due to the cage material. After a while I started to find little purple pieces around the house. With better inspection of the toy I decided I had to throw it out.

Great Book!

While shopping for last minute items for our Mexico trip, I searched the book selves at Target for a good beach read. One book caught my eye as it had a white dog on the cover with a missing ear and a reconstructed face. Loving the stories about rescues and the bond rescue dogs surely find with new owners I decided to buy the book.

Oogy: A Dog only a Family Could Love by Larry Levin is a true story about a dog that was used as a bait dog in a fighting organization and was left for death. It's a miracle how the events of fate looked after this dog. I picked it up and the first chapter read slowly but as i got to the second chapter I read the rest of it the same day.

I truly recommend this book to all animal lovers. It will leave you with a sense of humility and a large need to hug your own pets. I loved it.

We're back....

Marc and I had a great vacation in Mexico. The weather was nice and the resort was huge. It was so nice to go somewhere warm and warm up the bones a little bit. I was also able to swim and play with dolphins. A great experience and fun was had by all.

The kids were left in good hands. My mother and father in-law took them both for the entire time. You have no idea how grateful I am to have them at a home rather than in a cage somewhere. It was hard though, leaving them was filled with anxiety and tears. Marc and I both commented on how difficult it was to leave them.

During our trip we thought of the kids often and we called to check in a few times. It was nice to be able to sleep in without a Lola whine or her puppy breath steaming on your face. It was also nice not having to fight for bed space and maneuver my body around two little ones. But as the 6th night came, I was ready to get home and I had enough time away from the kids.

Marc and I found ourselves imitating the kids while we were gone. Acting the way they would if they were with us. Sounds kinda corny but it kept us from missing them as much.

We stayed a total of 8 days in Mexico and last night spent the night at home. When Marc gets off work today we will take the 2 hour trip to meet up with the in laws to get the kids. I am sooo excited. Just sitting here writing about them is getting my excitement up.

I am sure C&L had a great time, and I can't wait to lose my side of the bed tonight. I plan on snuggle time, and a lot of it. Ann has taken some pictures of them while we were away so stay tuned tomorrow for some C&L vacation pics!

PS...thanks for all the wonderful and supporting words, it means a lot and all I want to do is keep blogging. It's been a rough few weeks but we are back...and ready for anything. I will be stopping by everyone's blogs this week to catch up. I have missed you all.

About a year ago our cousins were told they were to move to Turkey due to Robs deployment in the Air Force. 6 months pregnant with two mini dachshunds, Sara boxed up her house and made the journey with her husband Rob.

We get pictures every week of Makenzie and sometimes the pups are caught with the camera. Looks like the pups are gentle with the baby and the baby really seems to like the dogs. The mini dachshunds are names Max and Katie, and they are the cutest I've ever seen. From expert travelers to big brother and sister Max and Katie are troopers. Nothing will stop them.

Marc and I visited my parents last summer in Arkansas. While we were there Lola and Cooper loved being able to run on their land. One morning 6 cows from a neighboring farm got loose and ended up moving onto my parents land right near the house. Lola thought it was time to guard the property and Cooper was right there to investigate. It was so funny we still laugh to this day about it. In fact Lola barks when she see's cows on tv. Our little watch dog. Enjoy the videos.

I am not sure if any other dogs do this bu when Cooper eats he gets it all over his face. Even above his eyes. I try to watch him to see how far he digs in but this makes him insecure and he won't eat while anyone watches. He is pretty cute though because every night after he eats he plops his but down next to daddy for a face cleaning. And boy does he need one each time.

February 23 is International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day!
It’s your chance to celebrate those wonderful treats that helped us teach our dogs to sit, speak, shake hands and even dance.
It’s the day we wonder on the majesty of the dog biscuit and all that it’s done for us.
It’s the day .. we should be baking some dog biscuits!

Bake up a quick batch of these Bacon Parmesan Dog Biscuits and show how much you appreciate the dog biscuit and your doggy will be sure to show how much they appreciate you.

Ingredients5 pieces Bacon (cooked and chopped, approximately 1 cup)
½ cup Milk
1 cup shredded Parmesan Cheese
2 Eggs (slightly beaten)
2 cups Whole Wheat Flour

Directions1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
2. In a large bowl mix the chopped bacon, milk, parmesan cheese and eggs until well combined.
3. Gradually blend in the wheat flour and knead dough into ball.

4. Roll onto a floured surface 1/4 inch thick and cut with the cookie cutter of your choice. (I brushed the tops with a beaten egg to make the treats shiny)

4. Place on your prepared cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until edges brown.
5. Cool and refrigerate.
Makes 2 to 3 dozen bones.

(These biscuits are meant to be fed as treats and should not become part of your dogs daily diet. If your dog as any food allergies or sensitivities these treats my cause them stomach upset. Please check with your vet before giving your dog any new foods.)

I wanted to share a great tug toy I found at target. It's a Boots & Barkley large rope toy with several knots and a nice rubber grip handle. My husband loves playing tug-a-war with the dogs and this seemed to be the perfect find. I picked this up for 13.00 and it's been worth every penny.

Lola has a special way to tell Marc that she loves him. She's a stubborn bulldog most of the time; but when she does want affection she finds it necessary to shove her whole body up against his face. It's almost as if she's smothering him with her shoulders. It's really odd yet it seems like that position makes her feel safe and secure! One thing is for sure...She is a Daddy's girl!!!

Grandma Sandy

We visited Marc's Grandma Sandy a while back. It's always great to see her and she loves it when we bring the dogs to see her. Grandma Sandy used to have a dog named Sadie, so her love for animals is quite obvious. At Christmas time there are always dogs in the house as she allows the family to bring their dogs. We usually have 5 dogs that come at Christmas time and this year another dog was added to the family so it will be a huge canine reunion come December.

Grandma Sandy is a fan of our blog and so we are going to do a little shout out to her.

Thank you Grandma Sandy for your constant love and support. We miss you and we will bring the dogs and visit with you soon!! We love you.

Sewing project

I've been neglecting my sewing machine lately but I wanted to share with you a project I finished a while back. I usually head to the thrift store and but children's clothes size 3T. One day I was out and I found a blue shirt that was from a pajama set. It had a cowboy riding a bucking bronco and I absolutely loved it. I made some alterations to it to fit Cooper and it turned out really cute.

New Bones

Cooper and Lola are not allowed to have rawhide bones. They both tend to eat it and and gag on the pieces. They both love their Nylon bones but I wanted to give them a different kind of treat so we picked up a couple Red Barn bones filled with peanut butter. I got it thinking it would last a while and it would break up some of the winter cabin fever.

I'm not sure i like this bone...My chin is starting to hurt.

After 15 minutes of licking the bone Cooper stopped. He then didn't want anything to do with it. I then picked up his bone and say how sharp the edges had gotten. (sorry o didn't get a picture) The edges he chewed to get closer to the peanut butter were razor sharp. Painful to the touch. With this in mind I automatically went to check out Cooper's face and mouth.

Momma, It hurts...and it's bleeding...

So my experience with bones other than Nyla bones have failed again. The kids seemed to like them at first but I couldn't let them continue to chew them as I saw what happened if chewed on. Cooper's chin is healing nicely and Lola has forgotten we even gave them these to try.

What kind of bones do you give your dogs? I will keep looking for a safe bones for my kids to chew on.

I am not sure who wrote this but I found it compelling as some of our friends have dogs that are ill. It reminds us that dogs are the ultimate companion and we truly have their life in our hands. Be good to your dogs and I hope those dogs who are suffering find an owner who follow the 10 canine commandments. All dogs deserve it.

Apple Cinnamon Dog Treats

I have another recipe from Doggy Dessert Chef. I love the recipes from this site and if you haven't been over there yet please check it out. Every type of dog treat you can imagine can be found there.

I know I know, I need to get some different cookie cutters. The bone shape is cute but I'm on the hunt for some other creative cutters.

Apple Cinnamon Dog Treats

Ingredients:
1 c. Natural Applesauce(or chopped apple)
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 Tbl. Parsley
1 c. Cold water
1/2 c. Veg. Oil
5 c. Flour
1/2 c. Powdered milk
2 large Eggs

Directions:
Preheat the oven 350 degrees.
Combine all of the ingredients — add oil or water if dough needed. Roll out dough to desired thickness and cut into fun shapes using cookie cutters.

Bake 20 -25 minutes until browned.

This recipes makes about 55 bone shaped treats. I found this recipe a bit more difficult to execute. I had to add some more flour at the end to make it a usable dough. With that being said, these treats turned out fantastic and C&L LOVES them. In fact my husband thought they smelled so good he took a nibble. He praised my cooking skills and said they were delicious.

Later this month I have the Doggy Dessert Chef herself as a guest. The recipe as always is fantastic. So excited to share with all of you.

I had planned on making dogs beds since before Christmas. I finally went the to fabric store and got some very cute and snugly prints as well as a canvas like material fro the bottom.

The Fleece was a good find and then I found some matching cozy cotton for the pillow tube . I was so excited. My dogs would have new beds that look as good as they feel.

I put a lot of energy measuring and cutting out all the pieces.

So I worked many hours on getting this bed together.Remember that I am a beginner sewer so I'm not as fast as most when it comes to sewing things. I got all the pieces together and started stuffing the bed and the tubing, becoming more proud of myself as it started to take shape.

My husband arrived home just as I was finishing up. So I set the bed down on the living room floor and met him outside for a cigarette. (yes my new years resolution is not going so well). After a quick smoke I was so excited to show him what I had made. We came in and this is what we saw...

The damage was done..

I am not sure what they were thinking when they went Tasmanian devil on the new bed that I slaved over for many hours. My husband and I looked at each other and started laughing. I mean I worked hard on the project but with the pathetic faces I saw glaring at me I couldn't stay mad. I am bummed that the majority of the day had been wasted. But I have enough material that I can cut out and make something different. This time C&L will be supervised with the final project until they understand that it's not a toy.

That's the story...My naughty dogs and the eaten project. Smiles were has by most!!

Bath Time Blues

Cooper and Lola are a fun couple when it comes to bath time. Lola goes first as she is more needy in the scrubbing department. I always feel so bad as when I turn the sink water on she runs and hides. I find her shaking and what a pouting mess she can be. I'm not sure why they hate the bath so much as I make sure the water is nice and warm before it hits them. I don't think it's the bath they dislike as much as the feeling of being cold afterwards. What's it like during bath time at your house?

Our VIP Product toy of the month came and here is the review. The product is Silly Squeaker-Pig Feet. The pig feet come two toys in a package and are very humorous to look at. I saw these online and had to give them a go.

The pig feet are made of tough rubber and is said to be made "from the highest quality materials to ensure your dog's safety". The rubber is a thick material covered with a pink furry material.

4:50pm Gave the toys to Lola and Cooper. (They each had a foot)

4:52pm Cooper pulled the hair off his pig foot and stole Lola's toy.

4:54pm I inspected the toys to see why the hair came off the foot. The pink hair is a simple sleeve which I found to be held onto the foot with a simple zip tie. Once the zip tie goes, the hair is removable.(That Sucks)

4:57pm Both C&L didn't want to chew on the toys. They were more in the mood to fetch the toy if we threw them.

5:02pm Cooper Prancing around the house showing off

5:04pm Cooper broke the squeaker in his toy. Then he was bored.

5:06pm Noticed that Lola chewed off pieces of the pig foot.

5:10pm Both dogs are bored and don't want anything to do with the pig feet.

I probably had higher expectations of these toys than I should have. They looked tough and I thought they would hold up to my chewers. I was wrong in every aspect of this toy. Not only was it easy to destroy, the fur came off in less than 2 minutes and the zip tie I found alarming. That is a choking hazard. One would pay $13.00 for this product and in my opinion that is $12.00 to much. C&L didn't like it at all and I would not recommend this toy to anyone.

Difference between Dog and Cat

My Husband received this in an e-mail this week. The author is unknown but I found it humorous. I think this diary entry is more in tuned with Lola than Cooper but know knows what our pets are thinking. I always wondered what goes on in their heads. Enjoy.

The Cat's Diary

Day 983 of My Captivity

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now ...

Her Facebook friends are at almost 3000, whereas mine totals under 300. She is always promoting! (Casey DoubleBurger Samich). The thing is, I love crafting and I love my pooch, Casey DoubleBurger Samich. I dedicate many a craft to her... and though Not everything I craft features my Bubba, she thinks it should.

I have so many artistic people in my life, family, friends, I wish I could sing, wish I could paint, so I have always crafted. I worked at Joanns Fabrics and Crafts after college, so I get the discount. I used to sew a lot, but now I am into the screen printing.

My etsy shop started after I finally hit on something, all of my friends and family wanted the frames I was making. I would use coordinating prints and ribbons... then it hit me later--to do it with the screen prints of my silhouette girls and dogs. Everything is about A Girl and Her Dog... I still occasionally make things without a pet, but it's just not as much fun, is it?

I want to be able to take him with me places as he is my source of staying present in the business of the world. I found this article written by Brian Spilner and I wanted to share it with you. Pet Therapy is growing fast in this country and I'm glad to be apart of it.

In a time when everyone resorts to capsules to relieve their pain, a new form of treatment is growing in popularity. Across the world, dogs are being used to help people cope with mental and physical hindrances. Therapy dogs are a subcategory of service dogs; they undergo extensive training and can help people cope with mild to major disabilities. In addition to the trained dog, everyday puppies and adult dogs are used to help treat depression. Caring for a dog promotes a sense of responsibility and provides companionship for those who need it most. So how exactly can a dog be used as a treatment for depression?

Dogs are utilized in two main ways to help with depression. The first way dogs can help are when they are trained for that purpose. Therapy service dogs are highly trained, but they do not always belong to the person suffering from a disability. Instead, a handler takes the dog to different facilities to spend time with many patients. Dogs that belong to the patients live and act as everyday household pets, except they are taught additional tasks such as retrieving medication. In the case of depression, the dog is trained to respond to the different moods of the patient. For instance, if the owner is sad or in tears, the dog knows to cuddle, lick away the tears, bring tissue, and initiate a game or other form of play. If the owner is stuck in a mood of apathy, the dog resorts to physical stimulation by trying to get the owner to pet or play.Depression is not the only psychiatric problem in which dogs can help people cope. Dogs are trained to help treat social phobia, post traumatic stress, schizophrenia, and obsessive compulsive disorder among other things.

I would like to take Cooper to visit people that would benefit from his presence. However the ultimate reason why we are getting obedience training it for him to become MY therapy dog. My dogs are not just my kids, they are a sense of stability. They have a way of being able to motivate me to get up everyday. To take care of them as well as myself. Sometimes its to difficult to participate in this world; but having C&L makes me feel like my world isn't that scary.

Give your dog some extra love today. Give them a treat, a good hug and thank them for being such great companions. Dogs are the only thing in this world that loves others more than they love themselves.

The past few days its been so cold that both C&L all but refuse to go outside. Lola seems to tolerate the colder weather a bit better than Cooper, but it breaks my heart to see them shiver. I put coats on them to try break the bitter cold, but you can see it in their eyes how they hate the winter.

One of Cooper's favorite spot is to snuggle is with me under the covers. It's a special treat when I have the heated blanket out. Here they are laying on the warm heated blanket when I needed to get up to change the laundry. I came back and saw them snuggled together. Needless to say I got a different blanket. I didn't dare move them.

Mom this blanket is a great invention.

If the kids are not sleeping with me under the covers and they are not in the room. I always know where to find them. Upstairs in the bedroom....in the sun. Cooper loves to sun bathe and lately he's been doing it in comfort by laying on the pillows.

Don't bother me mom...I'm warm and loving it.

Meet Finn

Today I wanted to introduce you all to a new blogger. I found him a few weeks back and absolutely fell in love with this wrinkled face bulldog. Please welcome Finn from Finn's Dog Blog.

Finn's Dog Blog is a fun read about the every day tidbits of a dashing bulldog. There is always something Finn says or does that brings a smile to my face. His antics remind me a lot of Lola.

Hi, I'm Finn, I am a one year old bulldog with a pretty active social calendar. I get a lot of attention when I go out in public, and so I decided you would all likely want to know about my days. I'll post as often as I can and try to post some photos. Enjoy!

Now onto another great giveaway by the Pawz company. The 1Z Coat.

This is a fabulous looking Waterproof, Windproof coat with a Built in Harness.

The outer shell feels like a neoprene material. It's soft, flexible, waterproof, and windproof. I was very impressed with the quality of this coat. It looks great and is made to last. Great quality!

The inside of the 1Z coat is a fleece material. Soft, fuzzy, and most importantly very warm. There is no bagginess between the layers, which gives this coat such a snug fit to your dog. It will keep the wind and rain out, while keeping the warmth in.

The 1Z is just as it sounds. There is no straps or Velcro to worry about; you just slide it over your dogs head, slip the feet in and BAM your done. The coat has a built in harness with a d-ring clasp for your leash to connect to. You can adjust the inner part of the harness. All you do is pull a bit on the nylon strap, push the button on the ball slide and move it down toward your dog. This adjustment give you more control of your dog. The only issue I found with this design is that the leash loop is in the middle of my dogs back. The zipper doesn't allow the d-ring to be at the correct position as a normal harness. If you have a dog that has bad walking manners, using the harness ring would not be ideal.

The top of the coat has a well made thick zipper to it. It seems to be built well and made to last. It should be noted that the zipper portion of the coat will cover the majority of your dogs neck. Being aware of your dogs neck size may help in choosing the correct size.

I don't know about you but I find it difficult to order dog clothes online using the factory size chart. So to give you a better idea of which size to order I will measure C&L and measure the actual coat. Are they the same size as what they advertise? Lets find out

Lola measures 16 inches from neck to base of tail.

Surprisingly Cooper did as well.

Then I measured the girth.

Lola measured 22 inches

Shockingly Cooper also measured 22 inches.

(Sorry Lola I always assumed you were a bit chunkier!!)

One I had these two measurements I compared C&L's size to the Pawz size chart

This like many products told me I was in between sizes. So which one do I buy?? Luckily Andrea at Pawz sent me three sizes to try. The 14, 16, and 18. Yes the biggest size they have is an 18. Sorry to our BIG furry friends.

Here are the 3 sizes for length comparison.

So the modeling began.

Cooper in the 14

Now according to the chart the chest should fit but be two inches short. The length is spot on. Size 14 means 14 inches long. But the chest is a bit tight and the neck is very tight. Although Cooper falls into the size 14 for chest size, its just to small.

Cooper in a 16

I know its hard to see due to Cooper's body being the same color as the coat, but the 16 was a great fit. It fit in the chest snugly and the neck was comfortable for him to. The length was perfect at it falls at the base of his tail.

Lola in size 16

(knowing how tight the 14 was on Cooper I didn't even try it on Lola)

The fit looks really good. The length and chest fit her snugly! For most dogs Lola's size this would be a perfect fit. But for my picky Lola, I wanted to try the bigger size.

Lola is size 18

The coat definitely made a big jump in chest size. The 14 to 16 jump was not as noticeable as the 16 to 18 is. The length is exactly 18 inches and the neck is noticeably looser.

This size should be too big for Lola, yet it is the size she wears. Lola may be claustrophobic (or just hates being dressed up) as she hates tight snug fitting clothes. She will run and dive to the ground to try and get them off of her. But with this size she has room to move and while at the dog park she never tried to rub it off.

Trying on the coats I found it helpful to measure the neck of my dogs. As the coat covers nearly the entire neck. The zippered neck falls just behind the ears. You could keep the zipper open if needed but that allows the cold to get in as well.

I measured the three coat sizes I had to help when ordering your size. I measured the neck size fully zipped

14=12 inch neck

16=15 inch neck

18=16 inch neck

Cooper's neck measured 13 inches around. Size 14 was way to tight on his neck. The 16 size fit like a glove.

Lola's neck measured 14.5 inches around. Size 16 was a very snug fit and the 18 was about to 1.5 inches loose. Just the way she likes it.

Cooper and Lola love their 1Z coats. They are are comfy and cozy. I tested the coats at the dog park the other day click here to see the coats during a 17 degree Minnesota day. The coats are hassle free and I know my kids are warm while wearing them.

Racial Tension Over Martin Luther King Dog Park in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS - The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is considering putting an off-leash dog area in Martin Luther King Park, and it’s stirring up heavy emotions on both sides.

It’s a memorial park and some believe having a dog park there is disrespectful to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Yet, the controversy is so typical of others lately ’ who decides what public spaces become sacred ground and what does that really mean for all of us?

There’s nothing that tells you the park in south Minneapolis is special, but for those like Charlie Mays who got the park’s name changed just months after Dr. King’s assassination in 1969, the park is a living, breathing memorial ’ not a place for a dog park.

’This park was dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King,’ Mays said. ’The only association with dogs is Bull Conner set the dogs on the marchers.’

The Kingfield Neighborhood Association wants a dog park that stretches along the sound barrier for Interstate 35W, behind the soccer field and tennis bubble. The closest dog park is a couple of miles away next to Lake of the Isles.

"You are telling me I should be excluded from all parks because I have four legged children,’ one dog owner said. ’No disrespect, but I don't think Dr. King would come down on the opposite side of freedom.’

It echoes the controversy over Glenn Beck’s recent rally on the anniversary of King’s dream speech, and the fight over the Muslim community center near Ground Zero. Who decides what is sacred?

it doesn’t help that the city’s busiest park is named after Vice President John Calhoun, who was pro-slavery.

’I think it's becoming a race thing in the neighborhood here, and I'm concerned about that," a Kingfield resident said.

Yet, the thing about symbols and dreams ’ they are fraught with meaning, personal and profound.

’If you don't know that this is respectful to us, that's a problem on your side, not on our side,’ another resident said.

The Minneapolis park board is moving pretty cautiously on the dog park proposal and said no matter what happens with the issue, there needs to be something that tells people that Martin Luther King Park is something other than an abstract sculpture.

Last night we babysat our nieces, Madeline and Krista. Cooper and Lola are always excited to see the kids. It was a fun night for all and I captured some cute pictures. Both girls are in a huge phase of dress up. Notice the cute Cinderella and Dorthy costumes.

I wanted to remind everyone of the giveaway we are having. The Pawz dog boot is an amazing product. C&L both have a hard time in the winter. Cooper especially, when it's cold out his feet freeze up and I feel like such a bad mom making him go outside.

To better test the dog boots I wanted to give them the ultimate test. Yesterday it was 17 degrees out with light snow. I figure if the boots can stay on their feet while they are at full speed at the dog park then, they definitely are the best product out there. So I bundles up both kids and away we went.

Lola Update

I took Lola back to the vet today for a re-check of her face and feet. She was terrified poor girl. I tried everything but nothing stopped her shaking. However, there was a great surprise at the office today. Erica was there. Erica has been Lola's pet sitter over the years. There was a time when she was a tiny puppy that we needed to go out of town and I didn't want to put her in a Pet hotel. Erica had been like her surrogate mother as a small puppy.

We walked in the vets office and Lola was for a minute relieved of anxiety and was able to enjoy the hugs and kisses from Erica. Erica talks in the most cutest puppy voice you'll ever hear. And Lola's tail was just going. I took a deep breathe and for a minute Lola was happy.

The Vet check went well. Her face is back to normal no bacteria found. She still licks her feet like crazy so the Dr wanted to try a different type of medicine. It was his opinion that Lola has allergies (duh) and since it's winter and it still bothers her it may be environmental. And that is the hardest type to control without the help of an allergy medicine. I hate putting my kids on medicine. I don't like relying on pills to get them better, but I also hate seeing her so uncomfortable.

I want to thank everyone for all good wishes towards Lola getting better. The powder we got from the vet works wonder and we will be stocking up on the stuff. Her folds has never stayed so dry before in the past. Thank you all for your support. Lola and I do appreciate each of you.

Naughty Cooper!

Last week I went to slip on a pair of my husbands shoes and I felt something wet inside. To afraid to smell it I eagerly had Marc smell the inside of his shoe for me. Yup you guessed it. Cooper peed in it. I'm not sure if it was intentional or if he was just that good of a shot.

You can see the difference in the color. Left is the pee shoe. hehe

For some reason Cooper will spray on things. I can pinpoint it to him feeling left out or ignored. Which god forbid I don't play with him 24-7. :) It doesn't happen very often but I occasionally find stains on things. He knows it's naughty and when we held out the shoe and asked him "what is this" he displayed the usual I am soo sorry face. It is truly quite pathetic and his eyes so sad it's hard to stay mad at him.

I'm soo sorry Mom.
